Herpesweb.net is a website whose aim is to provide information concerning genital herpes to both the general public and healthcare professionals. Genital herpes, or herpes, is a sexually transmitted disease that causes genital infection. It is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), either HSV-1 or HSV-2. The blisters and lesions respond to anti-viral treatment, given as episodic treatment starting during the prodrome or as suppressive treatment. Treatments include valaciclovir (valacyclovir), aciclovir (acyclovir) or famciclovir (famcyclovir). The disease can be spread by viral shedding, including asymptomatic shedding.
